Visit of Marian Harkin MEP

Marian Harkin MEP visited St. Mary's on Thursday 10th November. She spoke to the three Fifth Classes about her life and her role as MEP. She came to the school directly from Brussels.

She spoke about herself and her work with the European Parliament. Marian comes from Ballintogher in Co. Sligo, and lived for ten years in Manorhamilton Co. Leitrim, she became involved in politics as she felt that her local region was not being funded or developed properly and she wanted to make a difference.

She said that she gets great satisfaction when she gets somethiing done that makes a difference to people's lives

In an inspiring talk, Marian explained all about the EU and the part she plays as MEP. She told all present that they should follow their dreams and that with hard work and determination anything could be achieved.

Marian complimented the pupils on their school and was especially complimentary of the School Musical and wealth of extra-curricular activities which she had read about on the school's website.
